Hybond lab tests will identify perfect adhesive choice for steel door manufacturer
This week Hybond’s technical team have been hard at work in our laboratory facilities carrying out a series of bond tests in order to identify the perfect adhesive choice for a customer operating within steel door manufacture.
At Hybond, our industry knowledge, in-house lab testing capabilities, plus an extensive range of technical services all mean that the adhesives we supply are a tailor-made fit for each customer’s requirements.

THE BRIEF
The Hybond team aim to identify a suitable alternative to the expensive cartridge-based adhesive the steel door manufacturer is currently using.
Characteristics that need to be considered are when choosing an adhesive are:
Bond strength, and impact resistance.
LAB TESTING
Our dedicated laboratory team identified three adhesive types that would be tested on the customer’s substrate samples:
- A Hot Melt PUR – to be hand applied
- A structural 1-part PU
- A 2-part Epoxy

Structural 1K PU awaits peel & impact testing.
CONCLUSION
At the time of writing lab tests are on-going, with bonded substrates submitted to peel testing and impact testing. Initial findings show that the chosen Hot Melt PUR is achieving outstanding results, and is likely to meet the customer’s requirements. Following completion of testing the customer will be provided with a comprehensive lab report detailing the lab test outcomes in full.
